Octamethylsilicone oil is a transparent, colorless liquid composed of trisiloxane and octyls attached to silicon atoms in the middle. It is low molecular weight, low viscosity, with medium volatility. It has good compatibility with organic UV filter, so it is easy to prepare in sunscreen formula. The compact trisiloxane backbone provides a light, non greasy skin feel and improves spreadability. Because of these characteristics, octyldimethylsiloxane oil is widely used in transparent and smooth sunscreen formula, which can provide smooth skin feeling and is easy to slide on the skin.
