Silicone elastomers are highly versatile materials developed to thicken water-in-oil and water-in-silicone formulations as well as silicone fluids. It can easily formulate into anhydrous sun protection systems by converting these fluids (includes UV filters) to gel format. The elastomer particles entrap the fluid to be thickened, forming a gel matrix structure. The elastomer can be blended at room temperature and can be diluted with silicone oils or solvents to reduce its viscosity. 

In addition to its gelling properties, it provides a dry, non-greasy, yet silky-smooth skin-feel while absorbing quickly onto the skin. These are always important criteria when consumers choose their preferred sunscreen. Furthermore, elastomer films serve to develop a layer in which perfumes or active ingredients can be contained, perfect to deliver controlled release characteristics and provide long-lasting effects.
