What is a die casting release agent?

The commonly used die-casting release agents can be divided into three types according to the product form, water-based, oil-based and powder-like release agents, wherein the water-based release agent has good cooling effect, no pollution, smooth surface of the casting, and is convenient for automation. The water-based release agent is generally composed of five components, mineral oil, ester oil, alkyl phenyl silicone oil, wax, and surfactant. Alkyl phenyl silicone oil is a kind of modified silicone oil which has both high heat resistance of dimethyl silicone oil and excellent compatibility with carbon-containing compounds. It is well known that dimethyl silicone oil is a hybrid polymer in which Si-O-Si is the main chain and the pendant group is methyl and terminated with a methyl group. Due to the large Si-O-Si bond energy and long bond length, it gives the dimethyl silicone oil high temperature resistance and low surface tension. At the same time, due to the difference between its molecular structure and traditional organic matter, it is compatible with most organic substances. The compatibility is poor, which is also the main reason for the poor coating performance of castings based on such release agents.
