Applications and Properties of IOTA BJ550 Polyphenylmethyldimethylsiloxane

Hits: 1836 img

IOTA BJ550 Polyphenylmethyldimethylsiloxane finds application in multiple industries due to its unique properties. As a lubricant, it serves as the base oil for high-temperature ball bearing greases and lubricating oil for high-temperature instruments. It is also used as impregnating oil for sintered bronze bearings in small electric motors and mechanisms exposed to high ambient temperatures. In the realm of heat transfer, IOTA BJ550 excels as a heat-treating bath for specialty metals, heat exchange fluid for research apparatus and instrument calibration baths, and heat transfer oil in capacitors, transformers, and various electronics. Furthermore, its suitability as a thermostat fluid makes it perfect for systems requiring temperatures ranging from -40°C to 315°C, ensuring clean and efficient operation. Typical properties include a colorless appearance, a specific gravity of 1.068 at 25°C/15.6°C, a viscosity of 125 mm²/sec at 25°C, and a surface tension of 25 mN/m at the same temperature. With a flash point of 300°C and a freeze point of -50°C, it offers a wide operating window. Stored properly in unopened containers at or below 60°C, this product maintains a usable life of 60 months from the date of production. However, it is important to note that IOTA BJ550 is not tested or represented as suitable for medical or pharmaceutical uses.
