As a lubricant, it serves as the base oil for high-temperature ball bearing greases and lubricating oil for high-temperature instruments. It's also used as impregnating oil for sintered bronze bearings in small electric motors and mechanisms exposed to high temperatures. Additionally, it functions as a heat transfer medium in specialty metal heat-treating baths, research apparatus, and electronics, as well as a thermostat fluid suitable for temperatures ranging from -40°C to 315°C.
