Basic Structure and Fundamental Properties of Hydroxyl Silicone Oil
Hydroxyl silicone oil, chemically named α,ω-dihydroxypolydimethylsiloxane, is a functional organosilicon polymer formed by polymerization of siloxane monomers. Its molecular structure is terminated with hydroxyl groups at both ends, with the structural formula HO-Si(CH3)2 O[Si(CH3)2O]nSi(CH3)2-OH. In the industry, products with a viscosity above 2500mPa.S are classified as 107 silicone rubber, serving as a fundamental and widely applied raw material in the organosilicon industry. Appearing as a colorless and transparent liquid at room temperature, this product retains the basic properties of conventional methyl silicone oil and gains unique chemical reactivity from its terminal hydroxyl groups. It can undergo cross-linking and condensation reactions to synthesize new composite materials or cure into elastic and film structures, laying a solid foundation for material modification and industrial molding processing.
2. Comprehensive Physical and Chemical Stability
This product features outstanding environmental adaptability and stable comprehensive performance, supporting long-term service in a wide temperature range from -50℃ to +250℃ and adapting to complex working conditions with alternating high and low temperatures. It has a low viscosity-temperature coefficient, meaning its viscosity state remains stable with temperature fluctuations and delivers consistent working performance. Equipped with a large compression rate and low surface tension, it presents reliable hydrophobic and moisture-proof properties to block moisture erosion on substrates. In terms of electrical performance, it maintains stable insulation capacity, meeting the insulation protection needs of electrical and electronic equipment. Additionally, it has a high flash point and low freezing point, ensuring high safety during storage, transportation and construction. Its chemical and physiological inertness prevents adverse reactions with most conventional industrial media, enabling wide compatibility with various processing scenarios.
3. Customizable Technical Specifications
All technical indicators of hydroxyl silicone oil can be customized flexibly according to actual production and application requirements. The product maintains a uniform colorless and transparent liquid appearance without impurities or delamination. Under the standard temperature of 25℃, its viscosity can be adjusted from 25mpa.s to 100000mpa.s, covering low, medium and high viscosity specifications to adapt to thin-layer coating, thick-layer molding, substrate modification and emulsion preparation processes. The hydroxyl content ranges from 0.5% to 3%, showing a regular correlation with viscosity. Low-viscosity products have higher hydroxyl content and stronger chemical activity, while high-viscosity products form denser and more stable cured films. Targeted parameter matching can be realized based on curing speed and finished product performance requirements to meet refined production demands.
4. Standard Curing and Application Processes
Hydroxyl silicone oil requires matching curing agents to complete cross-linking and curing, with differentiated processes for different application scenarios. For anti-stick paper substrate treatment, curing agent and coupling agent are essential auxiliary materials. The curing agent accounts for 3% to 5% of the base glue, and the coupling agent accounts for 0.5% to 1%. In conventional operations, the base glue is diluted 10 times with solvent first, then mixed evenly with auxiliaries and coated on the substrate surface. Curing can be completed after standing for more than 30 minutes at room temperature, while heating at 120℃ to 150℃ realizes rapid curing within 30 seconds. For sealant and mold glue production, solvent dilution is unnecessary. The product can be directly mixed with professional curing agent, defoamed and left to stand for 30 to 120 minutes for natural curing. Different curing agents are selected for single-component and double-component products to ensure stable finished product quality.
5. Storage and Usage Precautions
To maintain stable physical and chemical properties and chemical activity, contact with specific media and harsh working conditions must be avoided. Hydroxyl silicone oil should not be mixed with acid-base substances and alkoxysilanes, nor exposed to water vapor under high-temperature environments, as these factors will cause viscosity fluctuation and premature curing. It needs to be hermetically stored in a cool, dry, ventilated and dark place to isolate impurity pollution and special medium erosion. Standardized storage management can maintain the original performance of the product for a long time and ensure consistent application effects of each batch.
