Why Thermal Stability Matters

IOTA BJ1000 Phenyl Silicone Oils are designed with a practical temperature range of -35 °C to +200 °C, making them suitable for applications where thermal stability is a central requirement. The fluid is a clear, colorless, and odorless polydimethylsiloxane with a high proportion of phenyl groups. It is intended for use as a heat transfer fluid, pressure transfer fluid, dielectric in capacitors and transformers, and base fluid of heat-resistant lubricants.

Low Volatility Supports High-Temperature Use

Volatility is one of the most important factors in high-temperature fluid applications. IOTA BJ1000 shows volatility of less than 1.0% under 5 g/4 h/250 °C conditions. This indicates that the fluid is formulated to resist excessive loss or change when exposed to elevated temperatures. Its thermal conductivity at 50 °C is approximately 0.14 Wm⁻¹K⁻¹, and its specific heat at 25 °C is approximately 1.46 Jg⁻¹K⁻¹. These values help describe how the fluid may interact with heat during operation.

Consistent Viscosity for Reliable Performance

The dynamic viscosity at 25 °C is 900–1100 mPa.s, while the density at 25 °C is approximately 1.09 g/cm³. The refractive index at 25 °C is approximately 1.5. These properties provide a consistent physical profile that can support handling, application, and performance evaluation. For pressure transfer and lubrication applications, viscosity behavior is especially important because it affects flow, film formation, and system response.

Contamination Can Reduce Service Life

The product description emphasizes that the useful temperature range assumes chemically pure conditions. Trace amounts of acids, alkalis, mineral oils, organometallic compounds, metal salts, or metal oxides can seriously reduce service life. This means that system cleanliness, material compatibility, and careful fluid handling are essential for long-term performance. Even small contamination risks should be taken seriously, especially in applications where fluid replacement is difficult, expensive, or disruptive.

Safety Monitoring in Open Systems

The flash point is approximately 280 °C, and the ignition temperature is greater than 400 °C. In open systems, the flash point may change due to heat-stressing. For this reason, it should be checked at least once a year, or more often if operating conditions demand. Storage should follow the label’s “Best use before end” date, with property verification recommended for product stored beyond that date.
